Why I Love Homeschooling #4 They teach each other!

Chloe(just 4 in January), surprised me the other day by counting from 1 to 100. We were stuck in the car and I think she was just bored. I was impressed though, because I don't remember my other two being able to do that at the age of 4. In fact, I don't know many kids that can count from 1 to 100 at the age of 4. I was also impressed because I know I had not contributed to this new ability of hers. So where did she acquire her newfound numerical proficiency? Her siblings, of course!

I've found that kids are excellent teachers for each other...often passing along their knowledge in the midst of play situations and with a LOT more patience than I can usually muster. How many times did her brother & sister count with her & correct her little mistakes until she could do it correctly? I'm not sure...but I know there were never any disagreements or temper tantrums thrown over learning this new ability (as sometimes happens when I am introducing a new concept ;-). They did it, and it was fun and totally natural. I learned a few days later that she could also count by tens to 100. Fabulous! I'm so excited for her and so very proud of her Big Brother & Sister.
